Pasta Night
The set up of this still life painting was created by me and the entirety of the artwork was done in acrylic paint on black canvas. Every detail is captured, from the intense shadows reflected onto the colander, the various shades and values captured within the shape and pale transparency of the oil bottle, to the warped capturing of the light source in the glass jar. To contrast the excessive transparency and extreme highlights, a wrinkled white sheet gives the painting grounding and adds more gentle shadows as well as balances the dark background.

Yosemite
A painting done from observation of the mountains of Yosemite captures the natural beauty and splendor of the Yosemite national park during the day, displaying the grand view of the mountains as the sun settles into the sky.

Pear Picnic
This piece was a still life done in gouache paints on white bristol paper. One of my main focuses was capturing the depth and various values within the highlights and shadows to best capture the lighting that was cast over the wrinkled fabric such as the contrasting blues and light browns. This also brought a balance to the composition, as the light browns are placed in areas against and opposite the bright greens and deep blues.

Behind the Knot
This piece is a pencil drawing using HB, F, 8B pencils. Creating this artwork allowed me to experience using a material in a new way and pushed my ability to shade with a method that helps create the illusion of real life.

Predator
This pen drawing is an example of mark making skills and utilizing those skills to bring texture and depth to the glassy eye of the alligator and the rough skin, bumps, and folds of the skin that the eye is settled into.

Green Corner
This artwork was created with the stippling of crayons to create the unique texture for the plants. By using crayons, there was a challenge of obtaining the detail level of the plant leaves and their pots. But the crayons did allow for the colors to appear very bright. The form and shapes of the scene and the plants were not drawn out, but rather suggested with the color and pattern of a number of dots. Different values were achieved with layering dots and colors, which results in an interesting texture. The addition of a few lines was only used to define thin shapes and support the structure of some of the objects present in the scene.

Interior
This piece was a cross between a study and a use of an etching technique. The crucial use of the line technique emphasizes the values and shapes in a place as cramped and full as the inside of a fridge. This line technique also suggests depth and different levels of transparency within the setting of the fridge, since the fridge includes different materials such as glass, clear plastic, and cling wrap.

Polished Glass
For this piece, I really focused on capturing each individual cut and the reflections that were casted within the glass. I tried to give the glass this precise and polished apprentice by utilizing the sharpness and bright white of charcoal pencils. The charcoal pencils also allowed me to create seamless shading to highlight the volume of the glass. This combination of highly contrasting whites is what pushes the appearance of a clear glass with cuts and shape.

Cornered
This artwork centered around shape and proportion, as no shading could come from change in value, only in mark making and the placement of the forms of black color. The empty space of the absence of the tripod and its shadow was made up for with a background, but not overwhelmed since white strips were placed to break up the black. The different textures (such as the shine of metal parts and the roughness of bumpy parts) were also captured using either different blobs of black or etching and line techniques.

Research
The intention behind this artwork was to create a piece with 3D effects that imitate the art style of a chosen artists, in this case, Wassily Kandinsky. I began by researching my chosen artist and then created a sketch of what shapes/forms I wanted to include in the 3D artwork. This also clarified what shapes would be layered on top of one another.

Composition
After drawing and coloring each shape, I used adhesive foam squares to attach each piece while also giving each layer dimension.
